Co-founder and president of Spencer & Co., Tania was determined to raise the bar on every level. Tania’s creative skill and sensibilities as a stylist, combined with her keen business sense quickly led her to a career as an entrepreneur.
Rick Spencer
Rick Spencer, co-founder of the unique hair studio, Spencer & Co. A veteran of 17 years. Prior to partnering with sister, Tania, Rick spent most of his career between London and Toronto. After a lengthy stint in Toronto, Rick decided to return to his roots, where he spent a couple of years strengthening his position. Eventually, in 2005 opening Spencer & Co., a wonderful triumph and victory in his life.
Rick is committed to staying attuned to global style trends. He is a true artist who is extremely visual and knows how to best compliment his clients in styles that express their unique personalities. With extensive advanced training in precision cutting and creative colouring techniques, this allows him to create styles of today and avant-garde designs for the trend conscious client. New Stylist @ Spencer & Co. - Aran Beattie
Spencer and Co. is pleased to announce a new addition to our team. Having been trained by the Aveda Creative Director's for both Spain as well as Canada, he is coming to us as well seasoned and received stylist. We are pleased and proud to introduce to you, Aran Beattie. Aran began his career in a small town just outside London, Ontario 7 years ago. He has since achieved great heights all over Canada through performing on one of the largest stages the "ABA'S" (Allied Beauty Association) in major Canadian cities such as Toronto and Vancouver. He has had the privilege of teaching at two of the five Aveda Advanced Academies globally, two Academies, as well as two of three Institute locations within Canada. Specializing in precision cutting, deeply rooted in both Aveda as well as Vidal Sasoon culture, earned him great recognition within our industry. Aran is now available for your service, five days a week.
New Stylist @ Spencer & Co. - Kendal Smale
Kendal began the pursuit of an extra ordinary career, in the world of hair in 2006. When she entered the hairdressing program at The Devog Academy of Hair Design. After completing her mandatory education, Kendal then embarked on an exciting educational adventure with Spencer and Co. hair Studio. Her 2 and a half-year journey began in early 2007. Seeing the motivation and genuine love of styling in Kendal, Rick Spencer (co-founder) quickly acquired her for himself. For the next 2 years Kendal would be Rick’s side-by-side protégé. Kendal, then was trained in color theory, as well as advanced creative hi-lite placement techniques. Aiding in the post color and cut, blow-dry finishing of virtually every guest to see Rick at the salon. Kendal quickly began mastering these finishing techniques, by way of practical application.
Kendal went on to train in precision cutting, in and out of the salon.

Janine Delouw
Janine has been a stylist for almost a decade. In the years, she has completed her master colourist, Japanese permanent straightening, advanced highlighting techniques, and is now one of the first stylists to be trained on the revolutionary keratin complex smoothing (straightening) system in Canada. Janine’s enthusiasm and passion for her everyday work is unparalleled. After all of her training, the art of cutting is the reason she does hair. The transformations she creates and visually watches take place, is what keeps her passion alive. You can see Janine’s work from the local newspaper, television or even the new student walking thru campus.
Janine enjoys the environment at Spencer & Co., as it is exactly the team environment she has been looking for and the support in which she feels, as a stylist in this industry is mandatory.
Karen Rock
Karen is a senior stylist with more than a decade of behind the chair experience. A graduate of Image Group Hair Styling Academy, Karen has gone on to train in advance colour correction, colour and highlight placement, advanced colour theory and with more than ten years cutting experience Karen has more than mastered the art. Karen feels that her passion for her business must be reflected by the salon and it’s team.
At Spencer & Co. we believe Karen to be an extreme asset. Due to Karen’s drive and readiness to make herself available to her clientele, this quality tends to be unmatched in the beauty industry. She has a deep respect for her clientele, which keeps her motivated in her pursuit for education. If total care is what is looked for in a stylist, with Karen you have to look no further. Rheanna Melnyk
Rheanna, a seven-year veteran to the ever-popular Richmond row clientele. Rheanna is a highly decorated L’Oreal colour tech., completing a vigorous colouring practicum, sponsored by L’Oreal. She has grown into a master colourist.
Her lust for the art of cutting was honed during an extensive course taught by the internationally trained team of Toni and Guy. Her accomplishments in her field have taken to her to places she never expected, such as back stage styling for the Contessas’s and the Illustrious Hairdressing Awards, put on once a year to determine the top hair stylist in our field.
Rheanna is a young, vibrate stylist, with extreme ambition. She has taken on the hairstyling field by storm. Her education in highlight placement and colour technique has placed her on the forefront of hairdressing. Spencer & Co. chose to seek out a stylist like Rheanna and successfully integrated her into our space. She is the type of stylist that adapts quickly and places the utmost importance on her clientele.
Mardi Leathorn
Mardi, a young stylist of five years, whose unique choices in the pursuit of education shows us her ability to dare to be different. The apprenticeship program took her on a three-year educational adventure to and from Toronto. Where Mardi took on two different educational style markets. Her Torontonian side keeps her well above the norm of style created in London. While her London side keeps her grounded and connected to the personal lives of her clients. She is someone that everyone should know, if not experience.
Mardi’s ride began as the personal and side-by-side protégé to Tania Spencer. Two years later, Mardi’s education again changed when she aided in the opening of Spencer & Co. in which she gained another mentor in Tania’s brother, Rick Spencer. Mardi has been trained in the arts of Great Lengths Hair Extensions and well as the newest techniques in hair straightening abilities (Keratin Complex Systems).
Mardi’s unique abilities in cutting have shown years upon her years. She is able to style from the imagination, a rare quality in the beauty industry. Her youth keeps her in touch with a fashion forward clientele. Mardi is a trend-setting stylist, with the ability to recreate existing trends. She has grown an extensive following in her short career.
Catherine LaRouche
Catherine feels working at Spencer & Co. reflects her personality; relaxed, bubbly and upbeat. After 13 years in the industry, Catherine has been lucky enough to be trained by many internationally trained stylists. She believes in wet cutting followed by dry cutting to maximize precision. Catherine has the rare ability to make you feel like you are the only person in the world. Her customer service and personal touch are inspired by her surroundings, the trends coming from Europe to the latest fads inspiring Hollywood.
Catherine has been trained to the master level in the art of colouring and highlight placement. Her clientele is extensive due to her attention to detail therefore space is limited. If you want to feel like a star, Catherine will pamper you like one.
